It Seems Chicagoans Do Not Want to Work but Benefits are Ending

Large amounts of Federal aid handed out recently have not been productive.

The photograph above was taken last Wednesday at around 8:30 P.M.  Windy City Gyros, a popular Lakeview restaurant, closed at 7 P.M. that night due to staffing shortage.  As you can see from the door they would normally be open until 2 A.M.

Staff inside the restaurant said they have been looking to hire for months.  But, because people would rather sit at home on unemployment, success has been elusive.

This situation costs them money.  On a usual week night customers enter the restaurant steadily.  Security personnel monitoring the property said many people had walked up and tried the door after 7 P.M.

Steve Hartenstein, Managing Partner of Lucca Osteria and Bar in Oakbrook, recently described a similar situation to CBS 2.  “The unemployment checks and the stimulus checks are keeping people at home,” he said.

This situation will soon change.  On August 20, the Illinois Department of Employment Security publicly reminded residents that federal unemployment programs will come to an end on Sept. 4, 2021.

This is a welcome development.  Government money is basically being used to hand out paid vacation, and that is ridiculous.
